LOS ANGELES – July 24, 2006 – "Shock to the System: A Donald Strachey Mystery," with Chad Allen starring in the title role, premieres on Friday, August 4, on here!, America's premium gay and lesbian television network. The second installment in the "Donald Strachey Mystery" franchise picks up as private investigator Don Strachey's latest client winds up dead. Don refuses to accept the official ruling of suicide. Surprisingly, Don discovers that his client was the new poster boy for the one of the leading ex-gay groups in the east. Television diva and gay icon Morgan Fairchild portrays Phyllis Hale, the patrician mother of Strachey's murdered gay client. Homophobic Phyllis Hale attempts to "cure" her son's homosexuality by sending him to the Phoenix Foundation, a "gay reparative therapy" institution. Determined to uncover the truth behind the death, Don goes undercover inside the ex-gay therapy group, posing as a gay man who desperately wants to live a "straight" life.
The sleek, new "Shock to the System" website, found at www.heretv.com/strachey, offers a full theatrical trailer and clips, as well as downloadable production photos, a full synopsis, a character guide, and a complete cast and crew list. Directed by Ron Oliver, who was at the helm of the first "Donald Strachey" film, "Third Man Out," and written by Ron McGee, "Shock to the System" is based on the popular series of novels by Richard Stevenson and follows the successful run of "Third Man Out" on here! last year.
