In the fifth year of World War II, a thoughtful middle-aged British Army officer, Captain Charles Ryder, finds himself posted at short notice to Brideshead Castle. Ryder has been there before, and time slips back to when he was an undergraduate at Oxford where he spent the formative days of his youth with his Oxford chum Sebastian. Back at Brideshead, Charles meets Sebastian's sister Julia for the first time.
