cast & crew: paradise falls

Steve Belford, "Colin Wagner"
Steve studied acting with many of Toronto’s best teachers while auditioning for various television and film projects. His big break came when he was cast as a series regular in Radio Free Roscoe. Large roles followed in shows such as Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Show Me Yours and 72 Hours: True Crime. Currently Steve is a semi-regular on the hit TV series Degrassi – The Next Generation. He can also be seen on MVP, a new CBC series that debuted this fall.

Four summers ago Colin moved to Toronto and got his first apartment on Isabella St. It was a bachelor and a bit of a rat hole. But what did he care? He was young and beautiful and very much in demand. He waitered. He worked in the kitchens of a few high-end restaurants. But mostly he partied. He had a lot of sex, did the occasional meth and enjoyed the daily ride.

Colin was making up for lost time. He grew up in the suburbs outside Toronto, the youngest of four boys – and the only gay one. He came out when he was sixteen, and it was not well received. He was never beaten up at school (Colin was too strong; he would have fought back) and he was never kicked out of the house, but things definitely changed post-outing. His gayness was never discussed in his family. He never had a girlfriend…or a boyfriend. He mostly had sex in the local parks and hung out with his friends. Over time, his family became more remote, and Colin literally counted the days until he could leave.

He never went to college or university. (Why bother when he could make more money behind a bar?) He made a lot of new friends in Toronto’s gay "ghetto" and missed no opportunity to have fun.
