The Trip follows the lives of two men whose turbulent romance begins in the early 70s amidst political controversy. When Alan and Tommy meet, Tommy is openly gay and campaigning for gay civil rights. Alan, conversely, is working on his first book, an attack on homosexuality. Alan invites Tommy to dinner to interview him. What starts as an innocent business dinner ends up beginning a decade-long relationship that weathers a number of break-ups and reconciliations. Peppered with an eclectic cast, this is a witty, tender story of love against the odds.
