After Dr. Leon Pardo becomes an ardent follower of Sigmund Freud, he returns to Barcelona a changed man. Without explanation, Dr. Pardo decides to take off and leaves his very pregnant wife, Alma. Left to wade through the chaos, Alma looks to Leon's brother Salvadore who has secretly been in love with his sister-in-law. They embark on a mysterious adventure through this new form of psychiatry in order to figure out why Leon left and what the future might hold.
